The center of the US monument is in Belle Fourche, SD, but the true center is 13 miles north, the 7.8 miles left on a dirt road. We drove 20 miles out of our way and climbed over barbed wire to get a shot of the actual geographic center of our nation. After that, we continued riding from Belle Fourche along the Black Hills of South Dakota through Spearfish Canyon to Deadwood. Apparently, we missed a good brewery in Spearfish. Bummer! We were going to ride further but Deadwood was such a cool town that we decided to just have some fun. Deadwood is a gambling town, which suited Meesus Bob nicely. She quickly won $1100.00 on a quarter machine. We are now Thousandaires! Off to the steakhouse and saloon to celebrate…
