Conquering the Beartooth. Beartooth Hwy was strongly suggested by the guys at the Sawtooth Brewery in Ketchum. As we have done before, we redirected our route just for this pass. It is arguably the most beautiful highway in America. The Yellowstone side we did today was a 26 mile climb to over 11,000 ft, then down into Red Lodge, MT. Near the top, it looked exactly like the “chain-gate” side of the Tourmalet! There was a nasty east headwind that ruined the excitement of the descent after all that hard work. Bob got his first flat of the trip going 35 mph downhill, so I had to finish the ride into town. Today we passed the 2000 mile mark on our trip!
