This begins our “test trip” to see if this leapfrog thing will work and if it is fun. We dipped our rear wheels into the San Francisco bay and rode our bikes across the Golden Gate together. I turned back to fetch the car as Diane rode through the Marin headlands. We met in Sausalito where I began my leg. Because we were working off someone else’s Map My Ride suggestion, we got lost several times and were lucky to find each other twice. Yes, it was a cluster, but we when we finally made it to Petaluma, we realized that we must be intelligent enough to make this work. Right? Not a major mileage day, but we learned a lot about what not to do.

Hmmm… Why are we riding to Oregon when we could drive there and then start the trip?

If my butt did not look like this, I could just do the Death Ride and call it a season. I’m pretty sure I will need the entire country to whip this back in shape.

Our favorite city. Am I delusional, or do I look a bit more excited about this than Bob does?

Fort Point.
This is on the San Francisco side of the Golden Gate. Getting ready to cross! -
A look back at the city from Muir Headlands.

Baker Tunnel. This is on the Sausalito side of the Bridge. Everything was blocked off for construction, so it was just little old me allowed to go through.

Between checking out of hotel in Union Square, driving to the Presidio, dipping our wheels in the Pacific, riding over the Golden Gate, road construction, bike trails, and Bob having no map, it was a miracle we kept finding each other!
