We wanted to sleep in after a long night of guest issues, but knew a thunderstorm would be chasing us. I was less than 5 miles into my leg when Diane called because her bike had jumped off the rack after crossing over a particularly rough railroad crossing. She thought she had a flat tire, but was horrified to realize that it was her bike lodged between the rack, car, and the asphalt. The rear tire had popped, the rim was badly gouged, and the handlebars were tweaked. Lacking sandpaper, we used Diane’s nail file to clean up the rim and replaced the tire and tube. A couple of other tweaks and voila, as good as used! The storm was catching up with us, so we ducked into Inspire Moore winery just as it started to rain. We stayed long enough to get local knowledge on fun communities to stop in later on. We were referred to the Pleasant Beach Hotel in Fair Haven, just a few miles up the road on the lake. 15 minutes after Diane rode up, it started to pour. Good timing. The place has a restaurant and bar and a great view of the sunset, so everything is good. Trip to date, it was one of Diane’s top 5 stops for relaxation and enjoyment.
