We blew out of Bayfield and stopped 20 miles north in Ashland, WI where we saw another brewery and tried some samples. The next 10 miles out of Ashland felt like the most dangerous I’ve ridden on the whole trip so far. Heavy traffic going fast, no shoulder, and no alternative: it made my hair stand on end. It quickly got better as we headed toward Wisconsin’s northern lake region. We really enjoyed cycling through here. We passed the 4000 mile mark today. Wow! We had booked a room in St. Germain, WI days ago so we could have a place to have our friend Nick FedEx Diane’s passport. We will be in Canada soon and Diane’s passport was on our boat in San Diego. Thanks again, Nick! We discovered why all the motels were booked. Apparently, this is the area that parents from Chicago send their kids to camp. We just happened to arrive on the parent’s visitation weekend. The hotel had a nice jacuzzi that hit the spot.
