Day 48 - Day Off in Bayfield WI
We did take the day off in Bayfield WI once we discovered it was a super cool town as well. The next hurdle was to find a room. Don Williams was playing that night under the Lake Superior Big Top and the Beach Boys were playing the next night. We found a little gem in the Seagull Bay Motel. Although the room was basic, it had a balcony overlooking Lake Superior and the islands. We caught the next ferry to Madeline Island and immediately headed to Tom’s Burned Down Cafe. Another gem that was referred to us by the bartender in Duluth. It was billed as the dive of all dive bars! Apparently this place has burned down several times, so now it just a tent covered fun place with hundreds of signs with quotes that kept us amused all afternoon. We met two guys, Greg and Bob, who had sailboats. After a couple of hours, they invited us to sail back to Bayfield with them rather than taking the ferry. Bob had a nice Catalina 36 and it was the first time Diane has been on a sailboat in years. She even got a chance to take the wheel on the way back. We ended up having dinner with them as well. All in all, a day off the remember! Thank you Bob and Thank you Greg!!!
