We awoke to rain today. After a wonderful breakfast of wild rice pancakes, wild rice covered walleye, and fresh fruit, we decided to spend the morning catching up on other things. It was a good day for Diane to prepare the monthly TOT taxes and for me to service the bikes and repack the car. Later this afternoon the rain stopped, so we rode the Paul Bunyan trail to Bemidji to see the statue of Paul and his blue ox, Babe. Our hosts, Dennis and Charlyne at Embracing Pines have been very helpful. All kinds of freshly baked goods are always on the table. After the ride though, we drove back to Dorset to eat at the Campaneros Mexican Restaurant again. The food is the BEST, the owners are super hospitable, and we really wanted watch the Tour. That night we returned to the Inn and watched the fireflies along the river.

Bemidji is only 20-30 miles from Itasca State Park where just yesterday we walked across the mouth of the Mississippi. As you can see, there’s no chance of doing that anymore!

Hummm. Rooms all modern? Perhaps not.

Paul and Babe. Paul needs a larger bike.

Is it just me or, with the exception of the checkered shirt and blue jeans, does this guy look like the other? well at least he’s smoking a pipe.

Oh yeah, the bike trails double as snowmobile trails in the winter.

They’re right on the river entering Leech Lake where the Fireflies glow and the locals harvest real wild rice.

Our friends at Campaneros in Dorset, MN let us watch the Tour de France again tonight. So why am I riding a donkey?
