Today was the first day of riding in Wyoming without a headwind. At least in the beginning… It was warm, calm, and really wonderful. Then we realized that Map My Ride neglected to note that the route it suggested for bicycles turned into dirt roads just 11 miles from the start in Sheridan. Bob did the 11 out and I did the 11 back to the start. After we got on the right track, much of the scenery was rolling hills, ranches, more rolling hills, more ranches. You get the idea.
The highlight was an antelope that kept pace with Diane for about a half mile as she rode. The only other area of interest was the Spotted Horse Saloon in the middle of nowhere. I’ve now given up on the notion that the prevailing wind blows from west to east. It always seems to be in our face. We finshed the ride in Gillette, WY, also known as the “Energy Capital of the Country” (because of their coal production) 130 miles later. We landed in a great room at the Arbuckle Lodge across from a major RV rendezvous area. We ordered Mexican food to go, made margaritas, and thoroughly enjoyed the in room spa tub. Ahhhhhh!
