Leaving Crater Lake, grudgingly. I started first as I thought it would be a long descent, which it was, but only after climbing the hills along the rim of the lake. Diane got the next leg with a great tailwind and averaged 20 mph for her 15 miles.
We meandered through the Cascade Lakes Scenic Byway towards Bend, OR. Talk about a road less traveled. Basically, we had a period of 50 plus miles where we saw maybe 10 cars. I guest nobody likes the Oregon Scenic Byway. Weird.

I got the first leg and thought it was 11 miles down hill. I was wrong.

Wizard Island is a cinder cone coming out of the caldera which forms the lake. no streams flow in or out and the water level remains pretty much constant from snow melt, rain, and evaporation.

You can never get away!
Last night, I posted on Facebook where we were and what we were doing for the first time. My cousin, Jason, texted me from Texas that his Dad still lives in Bend. “Uncle Bill?” So we connected and he and Sheri invited us to stay. Knowing I was going to see my favorite uncle after many, many years kept my legs moving on one of our longest days. Once we arrived and showered, they took us to Deschutes Brewery for beer tasting and grub.
Why are we doing this? Killer roads, wonderful people, great beer and great food. Oh… and Diane would like to lose the cellucankles before we return.
