The first day Diane felt we were really on the adventure. While I packed, fueled up and grocery shopped, Diane started her leg. She got stopped by a CHP for being on the freeway for 2 miles before getting on HWY 199. I got a ticket from the same CHP about 30 min and 10 miles later for not having my seatbelt on. REALLY? He was most concerned about our safety so I thanked him and continued on.
(I would like to weigh in here. Yes Really! Bob deserves the ticket. He seems to think all driving laws have a bit of fine print on the bottom which in this case would read something like “Click it or Ticket, except for BoB!” That is who I am married to, for better or worse.)

US 199 Redwood Hwy heading northeast toward Grants Pass. Diane was scolded by a CHP for cycling on the highway and I got a ticket for not wearing my belt…by the same officer 10 miles apart

It was a killer ride along the Smith River that ended at The Lodge at Riverside in Grants Pass, OR, with a beautiful view of the river. Everyone is so nice here! The lodge referred us to The Twisted Cork restaurant for dinner and it was one of the best we’ve had in some time. Excellent deserts and good company. That night we decided to take our day off here and go white water jet boating in the morning.
This day was so fantastic. Just awesome. It was new, the road was not well traveled by car, and the scenery was just great. It was truly a landmark day on a great road.
