Upon our return from Mammoth to the coast, we decided to start in Garberville, which is a little south of where we ended up before we left to pack. Diane wanted to ride on a more inland road that might have less wind. She HATES wind. Says it ruins all things… Not the best idea. The road was incredibly steep at first, about 18% in sections. We live above Davison Road in Mammoth, which is 14%, so we can estimate our pitches pretty well. The wind was better, but we were kind of sick of the trees and wished we had just stayed on the ocean.
Another lesson learned. Once we leave the coast, it will be six weeks before we see another.
We only made it to Fortuna that night. We ate at Eel River Brewery and met a girl who was the ground portion of a 3 person team (the 2 others were aerial) whose job is to map sections of the country. Very interesting that people still use real people to measure and record the landmarks on our Google maps.
