Today we moved away from the coast and into the Redwoods. As we were going through Redway, I learned a valuable lesson. I was riding my leg and apparently the Hunger Games audio book I was listening to was so mesmerizing, I zoned out and missed the car. Diane had parked it just before Avenue of the Giants and left for her leg. I don’t know how, but I missed the car completely and rode another 7 miles before I called her. Duh! This meant I had to turn around to retrieve the car she had parked 7 miles back. She spent the additional time riding ahead through Avenue of the Giants, which is a rare and enjoyable flat section of the ride north.
Despite today’s little trauma, we decided that we really did want to ride our bikes across the country this way. But… we need to return to Mammoth to work Memorial Weekend, get our employees organized for our extended absence, and pack correctly for a six week trip. Once we have work handled, the plan is to go back to the place we left off today and start the trip for real.

Home for the night. We’re headed back to Mammoth to take care of business and intelligently pack for the trip. Our Test has been a success and we’ll be back on the trip for real in a few days.
